Scope and Content Detail of window and shutters in the Tapestry Drawing Room in Inveraray Castle, Argyll and Bute John, 5th Duke of Argyll, inherited the title in 1770, and began to transform the interior of the castle in 1782 in accordance with fashionable taste. There was a strong French influence seen in the tapestry, furniture and carpets installed in the 1780s. Robert Mylne (1733-1814) was responsible for much interior decoration of the castle in the 1780s, including windows in the Tapestry Drawing Room. The round-headed recess, or embrasure, of the window has a concave inner reveal within fluted architraves. The shutters and reveals of the windows in the Tapestry Drawing Room were painted with floral and arabesque designs by Irrouard le Girardy, a Frenchman who was also recorded as working for the Prince of Wales at Carlton House in the 1780s.
