Scope and Content Suspension bridge, Haughs of Drimmie, near Blairgowrie, Perthshire This is one of the finest surviving early suspension bridges in Scotland, and was made by John Justice Junior of Dundee. Apart from the wooden deck and masonry abutments it is made entirely of wrought iron. This view shows the bridge from carriageway level. Looking towards the massive pylons, from which chains run diagonally out to the deck and back to anchorages. Note the diagonal planking of the iron-framed timber carriageway. There are other Justice bridges at Kirkton of Glenisla, Angus, and Crathie, Aberdeenshire. This is the finest of them. The upper part is effectively a cable-stayed bridge, ancestor of such modern bridges as the Kessock Bridge, Inverness. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
