Scope and Content Beehive Cottage, Inveraray estate, Argyll and Bute John, 5th Duke of Argyll (1723-1806), inherited Inveraray in 1770, and was responsible for much building on the policies and continuing the work of the 3rd Duke. His son, the Marquess of Lorne, was involved in the work from 1800. Beehive Cottage was designed as a gamekeeper's cottage in 1801 by the architect Alexander Nasmyth (1758-1840). The cottage is built of lime-mortared granite rubble. The entrance doorway is now enclosed in the 'modern' semicircular timber porch. The cottage would formerly have been harled and whitewashed. There are three irregularly-spaced window openings, two of which have modern frames and one which has been enlarged. There is also a recess for a simulated window.
