Hall of Mansfield, Limekiln View from S

SC 455225

Description Hall of Mansfield, Limekiln View from S

Date 5/9/1975

Collection John R Hume

Catalogue Number SC 455225

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Limekiln, Hall of Mansfield, Ayrshire This was a large three-draw kiln abutting a retaining wall. This view shows the kiln with what may well have been open-cast workings to the rear. The large inward-tapering semicircular draw arches are characteristic of this part of Ayrshire. This kiln and those at Craigdullyeart and Benston all seem to have a family resemblance. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
