Date 3/9/1975

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 455044

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Dalgarven Mill, near Kilwinning, Ayrshire This is a much-altered water-powered corn mill, latterly used for milling animal feeding-stuffs using modern electrically-powered machinery. The waterwheel, a low-breast paddle wheel about 1.7 by 4.9m was used to drive a sack hoist. This view shows the mill from the south west, with the wheel on the left gable. The kiln seems to have been at the right-hand end of the main range. Since this photograph was taken the mill has been converted into a museum and visitor centre.
