Scope and Content Part of Croftingea Printworks, Alexandria, Dunbartonshire This calico printing works was founded in 1790 by Andrew, John and James Stirling. It became one of the largest works of its kind in the vale of Leven. This view shows two-storey and three-storey ranges which survived as bonded warehouses on what became, after the closure of the works, an industrial estate. This works passed into the hands of the Orr-Ewing family, and became part of the United Turkey Red Co Ltd in 1897. They continued to operate the works, on a reducing scale, until it finally closed in 1961. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
