Scope and Content Hutchison's/Ravenscraig Maltings, Pathhead, Kirkcaldy, Fife This was the largest maltings in Kirkcaldy, situated beside the harbour, which it used for importing barley. There were latterly several blocks of floor maltings, with kilns grouped in the middle. Three kilns were orthodox: two had conical roofs. This view shows the kiln ventilators in the centre of the floor-malting complex. On the left are the two conical-roofed kilns. Hutchisons supplied malt both to brewers and to distillers. Until the 1960s they dispatched malt to some customers in special covered rail wagons. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
