Scope and Content Burntisland Harbour, Fife This harbour has a complex history. It was improved in 1870-81 by the construction of a wet dock, with an associated sea wall, and was again enlarged in 1902. These improvements were undertaken by the North British Railway for coal export. This view shows the ramped ferry pier used by the passenger ferry from Granton, with the associated waiting room. Though the freight train ferry service ceased when the Forth Bridge opened, the passenger service continued until the 1930s. This waiting room has been demolished since 1975.
