Scope and Content Carsebridge Distillery, Alloa This distillery was founded by John Bald as a large concern making spirit for the London market. It was converted to produce patent-still grain whisky c1852. The complex has been much modified over the years. This view shows the mid 19th century office-block, the oldest surviving building on the site in 1974. The modern stillhouse, containing three Coffey stills, is on the right. John Bald & Co was one of the companies that came together in 1877 to form The Distillers' Company Ltd, to end a period of damaging competition due to over capacity in the grain whisky trade. Carsebridge closed in 1983. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
