Scope and Content Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen The Rosemount Viaduct, designed by William Boulton, is one of a series of viaducts in central Aberdeen which was built to span valleys, to allow new areas to be opened up for development. This view shows a visible span on the viaduct, most of which is concealed by building on both sides of the street. It is a single skew span, of granite ashlar, with rock-faced voussoirs. The first urban viaduct in Aberdeen was Marischal Viaduct, built 1766-7, before parallels in Edinburgh. The last were Rosemount and Denburn viaducts, both part of the same scheme, and opened in 1886.
