Scope and Content Etna Brickworks, Bathville, by Armadale, West Lothian This was one of the largest common brickworks in Scotland, making stiff-clay bricks from blaes taken from the coal measures. There were four Hoffman continuous kilns here, two of c1897, with rounded ends and central chimneys. This view shows the works from the public road. The two nearest chimneys are those of the c1897 kilns, both of which were roofed. The two oldest kilns were out of use by the mid 1980s, and have since been demolished.
