SC 452265

Description West Linton, Main Street, Bakery, interior View showing oven

Date 8/1975

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 452265

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Former bakery, West Linton, Peebles-shire This is a good example of a village baker's shop, with house above. The bakehouse is no longer used, and it and the shop have been converted into a tearoom. This view shows the interior of the bakehouse, showing one of the two ovens. The brick lining can be seen through the door. Village bakeries of this type were common until the 1950s and 60s, but are increasingly rare. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
