Scope and Content Cadger's Brig, Biggar, Lanarkshire This little single-span segmental-arched bridge is said to have been but as early as the 13th century, as a pack-horse bridge, though clearly the bridge has been repaired on a number of occasions. This view shows the bridge from the south. The character of the bridge suggests that it may have been built for the accommodation of pedestrians at a ford; the same stream is crossed by a ford about half a kilometre upstream. Notwithstanding any debate about its history, the Cadger's Brig is a picturesque structure and an integral part of the burgh's image. A cadger was a peddlar. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
