Scope and Content Model housing, Gardner's Crescent, Rosebank Cottages, Edinburgh This development of six blocks of flatted cottages was designed by Alexander McGregor for James Gowans. The lower flats are entered from one side, and the upper, by external stairs, from the other. They were built for rent by artisans. This view shows four of the blocks, with the external stair of one upper flat visible. These houses proved popular, and the type was copied in various locations round central Edinburgh, most famously in the Colonies in Glenogle Road (1861). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
