SC 451827

Description Limekilns, Bruce Haven, Capernaum Pier View of harbour interior, from NE

Date 5/10/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 451827

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Pier, Brucehaven, Fife This is, like the pier at Limekilns, a well-built pier, constructed of large squared blocks of sandstone put together without mortar. It is on an irregular plan, with an angled head, and has a parapet along its west side. This view shows the pier from the north east, The squared masonry construction is evident, as is the parapet. As at Limekilns there is a reef acting as a breakwater, this time to the east. This pier dates from the period when coastal shipping was much more important than land transport, both for passengers and for freight. It is now used by a sailing club.
