Culross, Ice House View of landward side, from N

SC 451802

Description Culross, Ice House View of landward side, from N

Date 5/10/1974

Collection John R Hume

Catalogue Number SC 451802

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Ice house, Culross, Fife This is a small commercial ice house, probably used as part of a salmon-fishing station. This view shows the construction of the building, which consists of a vaulted chamber, which would originally have been covered with earth. This one has unusual ends, which may be later alterations. It seems possible that before the railway was constructed to the south of the building the building was deeper on the south side, as would be more normal. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
