Description Musselburgh, Millhill, Brewery View of frontage from N

Date 4/10/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 451665

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Former brewery (?), Musselburgh, East Lothian This appears to be the front block of a small brewery, the louvered top storey having served to cool the malt liquor before fermentation. This view shows the street frontage of the building, with the top of a chimney stack on the left. The building on the right is a public house, which supports the view that this was a brewery. Apart from breweries, tanneries and early distilleries also had buildings with louvered upper floors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
