Scope and Content Former station, Coupar Angus, Perthshire This station was opened in 1848 by the Scottish Midland Junction Railway, the middle part of the railway linking lowland Scotland to Aberdeen. It was later much modified by the Caledonian Railway, which took over in 1865. This view shows the goods shed from the south west. Its scale and the large rooflight strongly suggest that this is a late-19th century replacement of the facility originally provided. Coupar Angus was the market town for eastern Perthshire and neighbouring parts of Angus, hence the large scale of this goods shed, with its three arches through which goods could be interchanged between road and railway.
