Scope and Content Dallas Dhu Distillery, near Forres, Morayshire This Scotch malt whisky distillery was built for Alexander Edward, a local landowner and whisky entrepreneur. It was closed in 1930-6, and the stillhouse was rebuilt after a fire in 1938. It was closed in 1983, and taken into state care. This view from the north west shows the main E-plan range on the left, with the warehouses on the right. To the left of the distillery buildings is the embankment of the Highland Railway route from Forres to Aviemore. This distillery was modernised in the 1960s, but remains essentially as built in the 1890s, apart from the introduction of steam heating and the enlargement of the tun room. Since being taken into care in 1986 a visitor centre has been inserted. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
