Scope and Content Strathy Bridge, Sutherland This is a reinforced-concrete bowstring girder bridge, designed by Sir E. Owen Williams. The two concrete bowstring girders flank the carriageway, and the footpaths are cantilevered out from them. This view shows the bridge from the north east. The stepping of the abutment parapets in two planes is clear, as is the reverse curve of the ends of the main girders. This is one of the finest concrete bridges of its generation. The refinement of the detailed design gives a heavy structure a feeling of lightness and grace. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
