Description Castlehill Harbour View from SE

Date 16/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 438119

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Castlehill Harbour, Caithness This harbour was built for shipping Caithness flagstones from the adjacent Castlehill Pavement Works. To that end it has wide quayside areas for stocking slabs. The harbour is itself built of flagstone, some vertically set. This view shows the harbour from the east, with the vertically-set masonry of the east pier founded on an outcrop of flagstone. The broad areas adjacent to the quay edges are evident. The pavement trade is long dead, and the harbour is now used by small inshore fishing craft. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
