Noss Head Lighthouse View from SW

SC 435479

Description Noss Head Lighthouse View from SW

Date 15/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 435479

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Noss Head Lighthouse, Caithness This lighthouse was designed by Alan Stevenson as a marker for the haven of Wick Bay. Because of its cliff-top location the tower is relatively short. It is circular in section with a corbelled gallery and simple cast iron railings. This view shows the lighthouse from the south west, with the Egyptian-style keepers' houses on the left. Beyond the semicircular base of the tower is the foghorn. The lantern has triangular panes, but is not the original. As with all other Northern Lighthouse Board lights this one has been automated. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
