Scope and Content Helmsdale Station, Sutherland This station was originally part of the Duke of Sutherland's private railway from Golspie to Helmsdale. The design is based on that of Golspie, but it lacks the vigour of that building. This view shows the main building, on the north-bound platform. This was the end of the railway route to the far north until 1874, when the line to Wick and Thurso was opened. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
