Scope and Content Ferry pier, Ferrytown, Sutherland This was the northern terminus of the Meikle Ferry, which remained important even after Bonar Bridge and the railway were opened. The pier is a substantial one, ramped in the usual way, but with a central wall to give some shelter. This view shows the pier from the north west, with the central wall in evidence. Note the wrought-iron standard for a lamp, probably to guide the ferry at night. This is one of the finest ferry piers in Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
