Scope and Content Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, near Portmahomack, Ross and Cromarty This is a tall circular-section, tapering tower on a semicircular base, with a block of flat-roofed, single-storey keepers' houses. It was designed by Robert Stevenson, and the lantern and optical appartus were replaced in 1892. This view shows the lighthouse from the south. The gallery railings are of Robert Stevenson's characteristic diamond-lattice type with the corbels he often used. The lantern is of the later diamond-paned type. This lighthouse is now automated.
