Scope and Content Dingwall Station, Ross and Cromarty This station was on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway, opened to Dingwall in 1862. The passenger station was rebuilt in 1886, but the goods station, including this crane was probably older. This view shows the station building from the platform side, with its elaborate glazed awning, with the similar one at Strathpeffer the finest on the Highland Line. Dingwall was the junction for the spa resort of Strathpeffer, which the Highland was anxious to develop. The station was rebuilt to serve the Strathpeffer branch which opened in 1885. Nairn and Pitlochry stations also served holiday resorts. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
