Scope and Content Cadger's Bridge (Brig), Biggar, Lanarkshire Tradition has it that this was a packhorse bridge before wheeled vehicles were introduced into this part of Scotland. It is now a footbridge. This view shows the pronounced hump on this bridge, with its segmental arch. The light iron railings are an addition: presumably the bridge originally had no railings or parapet. There may well have been a bridge on this site in medieval times, but the present structure is unlikely to be earlier than the 18th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
