Scope and Content Net boiling tub, St Abbs Harbour, St Abbs, Berwickshire St Abbs harbour was developed as a fishing port, and modernised in the late 19th century for the herring trade. This view shows in the foreground a cast iron pot in a brick setting. This was used for treating fishing nets with bark extracts to protect them from decay. With the advent of nets nets made from man-made fibres, the barking of nets has become unnecessary. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
