Scope and Content Hayford Mills, Cambusbarron, Stirlingshire Hayford Mills were founded foe woollen manufacture by a family named Smith, at a time when the northern Forth valley was second only to the Borders as a focus for woollen manufacture. This view shows the smaller of the two multi-storey blocks. The effective use of red and white bricks is notable, particularly the key-pattern frieze. After the mills closed they became Government stores, a role they were fulfilling at the time this photograph was taken. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
