Scope and Content Carron Bridge, Stirlingshire Carron Bridge is an important crossing of the River Carron near its source, much used by cattle drovers from the 17th to 19th centuries. The bridge was built in 1695, and rebuilt in 1715 and in 1907. This view shows the bridge from the west. The massive triangular cutwater and the arch on the left appear to be original, but the larger arch seems to be a rebuild. The concrete reinforcement of the left abutment is late 20th century. There are very few 17th century bridges in Scotland, so this is an important survivor, even in altered form. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
