Gordon Station View from ENE along former rail track, showing overbridge and station building

Description Gordon Station View from ENE along former rail track, showing overbridge and station building

Date 1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 431107

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Gordon Station, Gordon, Berwickshire This little station was built for the Berwickshire Railway, a cross-country line from a junction south of Melrose to an end-on junction with the Duns branch of the North British Railway. This view shows the station from the railway side. The two-storey section incorporated a house for the agent. The timber building was a later addition. The small size of this station indicates that the line was built as cheaply as possible. The railway ran through sparsely populated country, and was never very profitable.
