Scope and Content Hillside Distillery, Angus This distillery was converted from a flax-spinning mill by a Dundee partnership. It closed during the First World War, and was reopened as a grain distillery in 1938. It was converted back to a malt whisky distillery after 1964. This view shows the distillery from the approach road. The maltings in the foreground closed in 1968 when a large new drum maltings opened on an adjacent site. This distillery has been known by five different names. It has been called Glenesk since 1980. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
