Scope and Content Former Alyth Junction Station, Angus This station was opened by the Scottish Midland Junction Railway as part of the main line from Perth to Aberdeen. This was closed as a through route in 1967, but was still available for freight to Coupar Angus in 1974. This view shows the station house and booking office on the south-bound platform. The mildly Jacobean style was common on railways built in the 1840s. This station was a junction from the opening of the main line, for it was here that it joined the Newtyle and Coupar Angus line, opened in 1837. The branch from here to Alyth opened in 1861.
