Scope and Content Lintrose Sawmill, Kettins, Angus This is a compact and unusually well-built estate sawmill, originally powered by a wood and iron overshot waterwheel in a lean-to house. By the time of this photograph the wooden sawbench was driven by an internal-combustion engine. This view shows the sawbench, mainly built of wood, on the ground floor of the mill. The belt drive on the left comes from the internal-combustion engine. Estate sawmills of traditional type were becoming rare in the mid-1970s, but this one was still working.
