Scope and Content Steel truss bridge, Nisbet, Roxburghshire Steel truss bridges with hog-back trusses were built in several locations in the borders from the 1880s. This one is comparatively lightly built, which suggests an early date. This view shows the bridge from the north west. Owing to the light construction of the trusses, external angled supports are necessary to provide stiffness. Note the slender masonry piers. The survival of such a slight bridge seems to due to the availability of a heavy-duty bridge nearby at Ancrum. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
