Scope and Content Former Hassendean Station, Roxburghshire This station was opened by the North British Railway as part of its Hawick branch, in 1849. It was a small wayside station serving a scattered rural population. This view shows the station after the track had been lifted. The building on the left was the original station. The brick building with the awning and the wood and iron footbridge were later 19th century additions. The wooden footbridge was very unusual, and probably survived because the station was in such an out-of-the-way location. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
