Scope and Content View of entrance front of Foreland House, Islay, Argyll and Bute Foreland House stands c.3.5km north of Bruichladdich, overlooking Islay's Loch Indaal. The original core was built for Captain Walter Campbell in c.1820. A kitchen and service range (right) and another wing (left) were added in the mid-19th century. The original house was two-storeyed and three-bayed, with a central pilastered and pedimented entrance doorway. There was also a basement. Internally, the house has been remodelled at least once. An interesting curved door survives in the drawing room. The kitchen and service wing (right) is a lower two-storeyed, five-bayed block which has been remodelled. To the left is the two-storeyed, gable-fronted east wing. This contains a billiard room and adjoins a conservatory and a greenhouse to the rear. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
