Scope and Content Netherdale Mill, Dale Street, Galashiels, Selkirkshire Netherdale Mill was founded in 1857 by J & W Cochrane to make tweed. It had two four-storey spinning blocks and a block of single-storey weaving sheds. This view shows the weaving sheds in the foreground with the spinning mills behind. The 1857 mill is on the left, and the 1873 one on the right. This was the largest of the Galashiels mills. By the time this photograph was taken it was partly occupied by the Scottish College of Textiles. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
