Scope and Content Steam engine, boiler and turbine houses, Philiphaugh Mill, Selkirk, Selkirkshire Philiphaugh mill was built for tweed manufacture in 1876, and subsequently extended. The buildings seen here housed the power system latterly in use. This view shows on the left the engine house built in 1912 to house the Petrie steam engine. Next are the arched doorways of the boiler house, and beside this an earlier engine house. Above the bridge is the turbine house of 1922. It is unusual to see the buildings housing prime movers so clearly articulated. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
