Lyne Viaduct View from SW

SC 424492

Description Lyne Viaduct View from SW

Date 7/4/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 424492

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Railway viaduct, Lyne Station, Peebles-shire This viaduct was built for the Symington, Biggar & Broughton Railway. This view shows the wrought-iron road span on the left, and the three masonry skew spans over the river on the right. The castellated treatment of the abutment and the diagonal-pattern handrails are unusual. It is likely that the March estates required this ornamental treatment as part of the price of allowing the railway through the estate. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
