Scope and Content Part of the National Coal Board Workshops, Iron Works, Shotts, Lanarkshire These workshops were taken over from the Shotts Iron Company when coal was nationalised in 1947. They included an iron foundry and a brass foundry, as well as remains of the iron-smelting works, which closed at the end of 1946. This view shows the brass foundry, a series of single-storey bays, two of which retained their original roof-ridge ventilators. In this foundry parts for colliery machinery were made. The foundry was originally part of the Shotts Iron Company's engineering business. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
