Scope and Content Drawing showing plan of Islay House, Islay, Argyll and Bute Islay House stands to the north of the village of Bridgend, overlooking Loch Indaal. Erected in 1677 by Sir Hugh Campbell, the original house was altered and extended by a number of subsequent owners in 1731, the late 18th century, 1841 and 1909-11. This is a ground-plan of the main block of the house. The hall and lower drawing room are located in the oldest part of the house, with the library at the front of the 1731 extension. The dining room lies within the altered 19th-century rear extension. The layout of rooms within the house changed as it was altered and extended. The present internal arrangement is the result of the extensive remodellings of the house during the early Victorian and Edwardian periods. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
