Scope and Content Drawing showing north elevation and plan of Kilarrow Parish Church, Bowmore, Islay, Argyll and Bute The planned village of Bowmore stands on the east shore of Loch Indaal. It was established in 1768 by Daniel Campbell as part of his reorganisation of his estate, and involved the removal of the village of Kilarrow from the vicinity of Islay House. This drawing shows the north elevation and a plan of the distinctive circular Kilarrow Parish Church which stands at the top of Main Street overlooking the village. Built at a cost of £1,000 in 1767-9 it replaced the former parish church in Kilarrow. The vestry is in the rectangular four-storeyed tower on the north elevation. The arrangement of the pews at ground level reflects a remodelling of the interior c.1890, and there is a U-shaped gallery above. The pulpit stands against the south wall.
