Scope and Content In operation, horse-gang and threshing machinery at Conisby, Islay, Argyll This horse-powered threshing machine was one of the two examples serving the township of Conisby, and is typical of those at many small farms throughout Scotland. Before this machinery was installed in 1910, the threshing was performed by hand. This is an open horse-gang because the mechanism is in the open-air. The horse walks in circles, turning the wheel which is connected to an underground drive-shaft. This powers the threshing machinery in the barn. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
