Scope and Content Interior view showing aumbry and fireplace in north-east wall of building D at Lurabus township, Islay, Argyll and Bute The remains of the township of Lurabus are situated on the east coast of the Oa peninsula of Islay, overlooking Kilnaughton Bay. Probably dating from the early 19th century, much of the township seems to have been abandoned by the late 19th century. Building D was a dwelling with an ancillary building attached to it. This shows the fireplace (right) and a slab-built aumbry or small cupboard (left) in the main room of the building. Most of the buildings in the township are rubble-built using clay mortar, although buildings B, D and L have traces of lime pointing and internal plastering on the walls.
