Scope and Content Drawing showing plan of township at Lurabus, Islay, Argyll and Bute The remains of the township of Lurabus are situated on the east coast of the Oa peninsula of Islay, overlooking Kilnaughton Bay. Probably dating from the early 19th century, much of the township seems to have been abandoned by the late 19th century. This plan shows the layout of the township. Building A was probably a byre-dwelling; buildings B, D, K and L were dwellings with attached ancillary buildings; building M was a corn-drying kiln; and building H may also have been a kiln. Most of the buildings are rubble-built with clay mortar, although buildings B, D and L have traces of lime pointing. Building A was probably cruck-framed -a form of timber-framing using timber 'blades' or 'crucks' as supports, resting on stone footings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
