Scope and Content Drawing of cross-incised stone at chapel at Cill Eileagain, Mulreesh, Islay, Argyll and Bute The remains of a chapel and burial-ground lie about 700m north of Mulreesh, 3km east of Port Askaig on Islay. All that remains are the turf-covered footings of the chapel, and the stone-and-turf dyke of the burial-ground. This stone bears a cross formed from a single strand doubled at the arms. The upper arm ends in a triquetra knot (triangular ornament formed by three interlaced lobes) but the other terminals are worn away. In the upper left quarter is a tiny Latin cross. This stone was a grave-marker, although it is unclear whether it would have been recumbent or upright. Possibly dating from the 10th century, it was discovered c.1960, and is now held in the Museum of Islay Life in Port Charlotte, Islay. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
