Scope and Content Fragments of cross from Nereabolls, Islay, Argyll and Bute Nereabolls lies south of Port Charlotte on the Rhinns peninsula of Islay. The chapel has been dated to the medieval period, and may have been dedicated to St Columba. Very little now remains of the building. Within the ruins of the chapel, there are a number of funerary monuments, many of which have been moved from their original positions. Most of those which have been moved are now held in the Museum of Islay Life in Port Charlotte. The front (left) of this cross-head bears part of the figure of the Crucified Saviour wearing the Crown of Thorns. The foot of the shaft has the figure of an abbot in a niche. The rear (right) face is covered in plant-scrolls with a horseman at the foot. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
