Scope and Content Bronze vessel found near St Mary's chapel, Texa, Islay, Argyll and Bute The uninhabited island of Texa lies to the south of Islay. Ruins of a medieval chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, stand near the north shore of Texa, surrounded by traces of cultivation and settlement. In 1881 a local excise-man digging near the ruins of the medieval chapel on the island of Texa found this small vessel. Made of cast bronze, the vessel is similar to others found in Ireland, and was probably designed to be hung by the lugs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
