Scope and Content Cup-and-ring markings at Achnabreck, Argyll and Bute To the north of Achnabreck farmhouse can be found some of the most elaborate and extensive cup-and-ring carvings in Scotland. The carvings are in three groups, the largest group being spread across three separate sheets of exposed rock. The largest and most famous group of three decorated rock sheets lies within an enclosure 350m north of Achnabreck farm. This drawing illustrates the elaborate markings on the lower sheet. Multiple ringed cups predominate amongst the markings. Broadly similar Neolithic rock-art appears in north-west Spain, Brittany and Ireland. The purpose of these carvings remains uncertain.
